Q. What advice do you have for a customer looking to hire a provider like you?
A. Do your homework and make sure the lawyer you’re hiring actually DOES the kind of work you’re looking for. If PRICE is the only reason you’re hiring them – you’re probably hiring the wrong lawyer. Also, have a chat with them – it’s important that you actually LIKE the lawyer you’re working with, because unlike other service providers, you are going to be working CLOSELY, even if for a short period of time, and a great lawyer that you hate is worse than an average lawyer you love.
Q. If you were a customer, what do you wish you knew about your trade? Any inside secrets to share?
A. The delay times are CRAZY and you should demand better. It’s a SERVICE BUSINESS, and an expensive one – you should be getting EXACTLY what you want, and if you don’t, you shouldn’t have to pay. There is no reason that something that takes a couple hours to do should take WEEKS to get back to you. Get a deadline and hold them to it.

A. Have you done this kind of work before?
Do you charge for research? Phone calls? E-mails?
How can I keep my costs down?
DO NOT, HOWEVER, ASK FOR A GUARANTEED RESULT. I counsel attorneys to reject clients that require/demand results for payment. It’s not an exact science and sometimes things don’t work out in your favor. You’re paying for our best efforts – not a result. If you want guaranteed results – hire the mob.
